Philadelphia, PA – On May 16, 2009, Girls Action Network, Inc. teamed-up with Annie Stanfield-Hagert as her arts enrichment group kicked off its activities at the South Philadelphia Library in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the summer multi-session arts program was for each participant group to focus on a different psychological or socio- cultural aspect of life. For example, some seminar topics included: bullying, racism, poverty, violence, along with some attention to assertiveness, inclusiveness and body image. Girls participating in the program were veterans from the 2008 program and served as mentors to this year-s first-time participants. Hagert, a licensed clinical social worker, explained to GAN Founder, Elisa Basnight, that the girls -are darling, enthusiastic and have not yet learned to act cool and diffident.
Coming soon: Look out for future GAN-Arts & Smarts activities focused on math appreciation through innovative arts training.
